In view of the latest verbal attack on BP "British" Petroleum by the Americans the people of the UK would just like to say that we are sick and tired of you screwing our economy and your whinging rhetoric. Its time to say just sod off and stick your special relationship where the sun don't shine
Thanks for starting this blog - I think it's important to have an alternative opinion shown to the one seen from many US politicians and citizens.
ReplyDeleteHowever, you may risk being too sweeping in your statements, as you imply that all Americans don't care about the environment. You're right to show the hypocrisy, but for things like Kyoto, it's important to remember that it's a decision made by the US Government, not American people. I don't know the level of support it had with citizens, but I understand it was Bush who stood in the way of signing the agreement.
Thanks for writing the blog - it's necessary to see the alternative side of the story and nice to see someone defending Britain and BP against overzealous attacks.

ReplyDeleteHi Bradley, yes of course there are probably many more Americans who are sensitive to environmental issues than a lot of us Brits - They even spend a lot of time and money “Jetting” round the world to preach the message.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do not believe the anti-Brit campaign is just a bit of desperate politics from Obama. The American press are equally scathing about “British Petroleum” but offer little comparison to their own dastardly deeds of the past. Open comments to such articles are numerous and equally derisive. There is a slight difference now after THE phone call on Saturday 12th, the posts generally start with I’m not anti-British but…….
As an aside, I watched the 1994 Hollywood blockbuster “On Deadly Ground” the other day. If you don’t know the tail it’s about our very own British actor Sir Michael Caine playing villain Michael Jennings the “rude, foul mouthed and ruthless CEO” of the Aegis Oil Company. In a nutshell Sir Michael cuts corners and installs faulty blow out protectors to save time and money. Luckily we have our American hero Steven Segal to save the day and avert an environmental crisis by blowing up the oil rig! – Sound familiar?
